NASCAR’s Young Drivers are Rising to the Occasion

NASCAR’s 2nd Champion Bill Rexford (1950) was the youngest-ever qt 23 years, 7 months, and 15 days old. His predecessor Jeff Gordon (1995) was 24 years, 3 months, and 8 days old. Last season’s champion Chase Elliott was 24 years, 11 months, and 9 days old. The 2004 champion and 2017 Daytona 500 champion Kurt Busch was 26 years, 3 years, and 17 days old. And Richard Petty was the 5th-youngest-ever champion at 27 years, 3 months, and 4 days old.

Chase Elliott, Chris Buescher, Daniel Suarez, William Byron, Tyler Reddick (2), and Austin Cindric were the last seven champions in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Suarez was the oldest champion at 24 years old. In this season, the oldest Full-time driver to win a race was Justin Allgaier at 33 years old, and by comparison, Harrison Burton was 20 when he turned the Playoffs upside down by winning at Texas and Martinsville.
