William Byron won his first career NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway last Saturday night, and multiple sources confirmed that he inked an two-year extension late Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second time in one season that Rick Hendrick extended a driver after winning a race. Alex Bowman received an extension after winning the Auto Club 400.
Drivers in cars prepared by Hendrick, Joe Gibbs, Stewart-Haas Racing, and Chip Ganassi Racing are expected to win more than one race per season. William Byron has been performing better yielding more expected results. He’s in the midst of his third full-time season driving the #24 and he’s been underwhelming at best. I am a fan but Hendrick should have waited to extend his contract and extending it through 2022 was a mistake.
