Harrison Burton’s performance in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series was abysmal at best in 2019. He had a higher average finish (11) in his first 11 races compared to averaging finishing 13th in the last 12.
In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, his average finish was 16th, but he suffered three DNFs in his final three starts. Before the accidents, he was battling inside the Top-10.
Joe Gibbs Racing has received major harsh criticism over the past few months for the Driver Lineup. Brandon Jones is the most consistent veteran, who brings the most substantial funding to the team, and Burton will prove his skeptics wrong.
The only concern lies with choosing Riley Herbst. He is the most unproven driver of any in the three National Touring Series combined. He has experience in the ARCA Menards Series, albeit limited and with pedestrian statistics, but he brings money to the table with support from NOS. It is disheartening to believe an accomplished NASCAR and Pro Football Hall Of Fame inductee, Joe Gibbs, would sign Herbst. Although, the team desired to retain its presence as a three-car operation.
