NASCAR announced today that the NASCAR Gander RV & Truck Series Playoff field to ten (10) eligible drovers. A competitor must be declared a full-time or part-time competitor in the Truck Series alone, and win at least one race in the current season.
I am not sure how to feel about this because I do not agree with the Playoff format being instituted in this series to begin with. This series’ schedule is the shortest and frequently has drivers ranging from eighteen (18) to twenty-one (21) years competing in it, as a stepping stone, unless an unforeseen circumstance occurs hindering their progress.
Additionally, the races in this series are the most condensed, making it easier for drivers to either run well or run poorly. Not to mention, the regular season is relatively short and is the shortest comparatively to the other two national touring series seasons. Other drivers could qualify, but depending on the competitive quality compared to their opponents, is it meaningful enough to the overall on track product?
This year is a transition year across NASCAR as an entire sport. We’ll see how it works out.
